Geologically the basin is characterized by crustaceous, jurassic, limestone, shales, alluvial deposits, precambrian gneiss, and schists [4]. The average rainfall in the Alluvial deposits are mainly seen in coastal delta regions and along river valleys. The coastal plain consists of largely unconsolidated sediments (beach sands, dunes and salt marsh), with some consolidated limestone deposits. Alluvium is found in river valleys.
